Conventional Storage Tanks are the most common choice in our community. Tanks hold the water that is available for use and once it’s heated, it will stay at a warm temperature ready for you to use it. It’s important to know there are three different classifications for the Storage Tank Heater.
Atmospheric is the most economical option but it’s also the least efficient. Power Vented has an electronic ignition and is slightly more efficient. The Condensing option is the cream of the crop as they are up to 97% efficient and will certainly save you money on your hydro bill.
Energy: Natural Gas, Electric
Lifespan: 8 - 10 Years
Visual: Square or Rectangular Shaped Box
Best Feature: Endless hot water supply
Minor Drawback: More complicated to install, Larger Investment
Maintenance Required: Annual Cleaning to avoid sediment, corrosion and poor performance
This is our second most popular water heater option and we love it! The water passes through coils in the heat exchanger to heat up the water instantly at the desired temperature. This is the best choice for families who have a higher demand for hot water at once. Another big benefit is that this system takes up less space and fits well in smaller areas. They are super-efficient because they only heat the hot water when you need it, making it easier on your hydro bill.
If you’re experiencing any major issues with your water heater, ensure to address it quickly. Water heater leaks should be addressed immediately because there may be other issues with the plumbing system as well (eg. expansion tank, vacuum breaker, temperature & pressure relief etc.). If your water heater is not working properly and it’s getting to the later stages of its life, it may be time to replace it and avoid further issues.
Absolute Plumbing Solutions offers annual maintenance included as an option with all of our water heater installations. Your water heater works so hard all day every day to provide hot water for your entire family. Although it’s often forgotten about, your water heater requires regular annual maintenance in order to continue to function as it should. We commonly see unmaintained water heaters work slower and take up more energy than they are designed to. Units that are not maintained often fail to last the full expected lifespan so it’s always better to be pro-active!
Here are some of the major benefits you will experience with regular annual maintenance of your water heater.
PRO-TIP: Adding an Expansion Tank to your existing water heart not only helps your tank but also protects your plumbing system from thermal expansion
Did you know that buildup causes your tank to increase energy usage? The harder your water heater has to work to heat the water, the more energy will be used each and every day. Sediment and build-up in your water heater will hinder the performance of your unit. If your tank is working overtime, you’re going to pay for it each month on your hydro bill.
A sluggish water heater will experience slower water heating capabilities. Because the buildup makes it difficult for your tank to go through the heat transfer process, you’ll be waiting longer to heat your water. You’ll also be running out of hot water faster. We’ve seen many cases where a water heater starts performing like new with a single maintenance visit.
An annual flush will clear up the buildup that solidifies and makes it difficult for water to circulate through the tank properly. When you have sediment circulating around, this often leads to those scary banging sounds you may have heard from your tank. There’s no worry of the tank exploding but it does mean that there is too much sediment in your tank that is getting in the way.
PRO TIP: with our deluxe and diamond packages we upgrade the drain to a full port 3/4 ball valve to allow maximising the amount of debris removed, it is an optional add in were our standard installs as well
We’ve come across tanks that give off a foul smell. Like any organic matter that accumulates over time, the sediment in your tank can give off an unpleasant smell. Even your first flush can help alleviate any of these stinky issues.
Each time we visit your home to flush and inspect your unit, we will look out for any irregularities or warning signs that you need to know about. We will advise you on the condition and when you may want to consider changing your water heater before you end up with an emergency situation. Our professional inspections give you the peace of mind you need to feel comfortable and safe in your home all year round.
PRO TIP: We can also make you aware of any code updates and requirements
