It’s Spring Time! We are seeing lots of beautiful flowers in bloom. It’s inspired us to share some fresh and simple home-made recipes for cleaning your beloved household plumbing accessories.

There are many wonderful products on the market that safely clean not just your kitchen but your entire home! They may be better at completely removing bacteria if that is your number one concern. However, today we’re sharing some natural ways to clean that are versatile and bring springtime freshness to your home. Let’s get started!

How to Clean Ceramic Surfaces, Naturally

This is applicable for ceramic sinks, tiles, toilets, and tubs. Ceramic sinks are beautiful and sturdy but they are vulnerable to scratches so it is important to be gentle when cleaning.

We suggest that you clean with a towel or soft sponge instead of anything made of metal or hard plastic. We’ve tried and tested this simple cleaning solution that is powerful and easy to make.

Lemon Dream Solution

In a jar or glass container with a tight lid, combine the following ingredients:

  • ½ cup of Baking Soda
  • 1 tbsp of Liquid Castille Soap (We like Dr. Bronners, pick your favourite scent)
  • 10 drops of Lemon or Bergamot Essential Oil (can use any other citrus)
  • ½ tbsp of Water

Instructions:

Mix the ingredients well. To use, you wet a towel or sponge with warm water and scoop a small amount of the solution onto the towel. You then scrub away at whichever surface needs some attention! It’s that easy

*This is a smaller amount but you can easily double or triple the recipe and keep the remaining solution for another day.

How to Clean Stainless Steel Surfaces, Naturally

This is applicable for stainless steel sinks or other stainless steel surfaces. Stainless steel is so chic and modern, but it is prone to water and fingerprint marks.

This simple recipe is so versatile and even works with ceramic surfaces as well.

Baking Soda Cocktail

All you need is:

  • Baking Soda
  • White Vinegar
  • Sponge

Instructions:

Sprinkle some baking soda over your sink (approximately a few tablespoons, depending on the size of your sink). Pour a small amount of vinegar on your sponge and begin scrubbing

This mix might fizzle a little bit, don’t worry it won’t damage your stainless steel. For tough stains or for a more thorough clean, replace the white vinegar with Hydrogen Peroxide and it should do the trick.

Make sure to thoroughly rinse the sink with water after you are done. You don’t want to leave those liquids sitting on any surface because they are acidic.

There you have it! Two very easy and fresh cleaning solutions for that will preserve the look of any ceramic surface, whether it be your sink, tub, or toilet.

If you find that no matter what your sink or tub isn’t looking as great as it used to, it might be time to upgrade! We are always here to make the best recommendation for you and make sure it is installed correctly. Give us a call and we are happy to help.
